They are a common bird around Canberra and
generally very easy to film. (They are the faunal emblem of the ACT and COG's
emblem). Our long-term study results show them to occur on average at least once
at about 70% of garden survey sites during each year. Other good places to find
them include the Botanic Gardens and behind the War Memorial. However they are
far more common in winter than summer, so the suggested the timing of the visit
is far from optimal. During summer most of the local population are in the
ranges, so probably Tidbinbilla reserve may be best at this time.

gang gangs
i have a friend from America coming over for a
few days and he is very keen to get video of gang gangs preferably feeding.
does anyone have any confident suggestion near sydney or melbourne. happy to
drive for a few hours if likelihood high. have on previously visits looked
more generally and found most black cockatoos up close but this one has
always evaded me when he is here.
