G'day all I heard a Grey Butcherbird calling at Smythesdale (a few km west of Ballarat) last week. I noted it because it is the first I've heard or seen west of Melbourne. I have records for the Otway coast and the forests and mallee north west of the divide but none on the western plains. To my knowledge, they don't occur in the Grampians or the forests of the south-west (although I believe Rob Farnes might have a couple of records). Can a local please advise me of their status in the Ballarat district?
