Just on odd eatings of the bird world. Last year I
observed a Singing Honeyeater feeding on a half-eaten apple core. It
revisited the apple core (which was lying on the grass in the lunch area at
work) numerous times over three days. It would poke little holes in the apple
flesh with it's bill then use it's tongue to lick at the hole. It also took tiny
strips of apple flesh that were loose around the holes. This was during autumn,
so perhaps there was a lack of flowering plants and the honeyeater was using the
apple as a substitute source for sugar?
