AD will ensure that Hunter's proposals are not met

Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party said that the Hunters' Federation has confirmed that the Nationalist and Labour Parties are its target when it presented a pre-election document only to these two parties. AD said that only its presence in parliament can bring about a political solution within parliament to control hunting.

Green Party spokesperson for the Environment Mark Causon said

"The hunting lobby has been having its way under successive governments. Malta has also managed to achieve a deal with the EU through which hunting in Spring will continue. This is something that AD fully opposes. Now the Hunters' Federation is asking for an amnesty for unregistered weapons and on the registration of stuffed birds which are prohibited under present regulations. To add insult to injury, the Federation is proposing a 20-day trial period for hunting at Sea in March as well as a revision of the list of birds that could be taken from the wild. Besides, the federation is requesting a formal agreement  with the Government on the management of Mizieb and l-Ahrax in Mellieha. We are more than confident that both the Nationalist and Labour Parties will do their utmost to please the hunting lobby, even if there is massibe opposition to such behaviour. This has also been confirmed by the survey commissioned by Xarabank, that shows that an overlwhelming majority - 64% - agree with stiffer measures against illegal hunting and trapping, while only 18% state that measures are strong enough. The survey also shows that 44% of the sample claimed that hunting and trapping should be ruled out as illegal, while 39% believed that they should retain their legal status."

The Green Party spokesperson added

"In parliament, Alternattiva Demokratika would be the only guarantee that these requests are not met. Our commitment enshrined in our electoral manifesto. We are the only political party that wants hunting to be abolished in Spring, in line with the EU Birds Directive and the Berne Convention. We are also fully supporting calls by the majority of Maltese and Gozitans as well as civil society organisations in their demand for the strengthening of the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit so that hunting can be curbed"

In the meantime AD expressed its support for the demonstration in favour of Animal Protection that will be organised by various animal welfare and social civil society organisations.  The demonstration will be held on Tuesday 19th November and will commence at 17:00hrs at Freedom Square, Valletta.  Letters will be handed to Members of Parliament calling on them to emphasise the importance of enforcement of the new animal welfare act.

AD tizgura li ma jigux milqugha l-proposti tal-Federazzjoni tal-Kaccaturi

Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party qalet li l-Federazzjoni tal-Kaccaturi ikkonfermat li l-Partit Nazzjonalista u l-Partit Laburista qeghdin fil-mira taghha meta pprezentat dokument pre-elettorali li dawn iz-zewg partiti biss. AD qalet li tkun biss il-prezenza taghha fil-parlament li tista' ggib soluzzjoni politika fi hdan il-parlament biex il-kacca tigi kkontrollata.

Il-Kelliem ta' AD ghall-Ambjent Mark Causon qal

"Il-lobby tal-kaccaturi ilha tiehu li trid taht gvernijiet successivi. Malta irnexxielha wkoll iggib ftehim ma' l-Unjoni Ewropea li permezz tieghu ser tkompli l-kacca fir-rebbiegha. AD topponi dan il-ftehim. Issa l-Federazzjoni tal-Kaccaturi qed jitolbu amnestiji ghall-armi li m'humiex registrati u ghar-registrazzjoni ta' ghasafar ibbalzmati li m'humiex permessi taht ir-regoli prezenti.  Il-Federazzjoni tal-Kaccaturi qieghda tipproponi wkoll perjodu ta' prova ta' 20 gurnata ghall-kacca fil-bahar f'Marzu kif ukoll revizjoni tal-lista ta' ghasafar li jistghu jittiehdu mill-abitat naturali. Proposta ohra hi biex ikun hemm ftehim formali mal-Gvern ghall-immanigjar tal-Mizieb u ta' l-Ahrax tal-Mellieha. Ahna iktar milli kunfidenti li kemm il-Partit Nazzjonalista kif ukoll il-Partit Laburista ser jaghmlu l-almu taghhom biex jissodisfaw lill-lobby tal-kaccaturi, anke jekk hemm oppozizzjoni massiva ghal dan. Dan hu kkonfermat mis-survey ta' Xarabank, li juri li maggoranza kbira - 64% - jaqblu ma' pieni aktar iebsa kontra l-kacca w l-insib, filwaqt li huma biss 18% li jemmnu li l-pieni huma iebsa bizzejjed. Is-survey ta' Xarabank juri wkoll li 44% ta' dawk intervistati jemmnu li  l-kacca u l-insib ghandhom isiru illegali, filwaqt li 39% jemmnu li dawn ghandhom jibqghu legali."

Il-Kelliem ta' AD sahaq,

"Fil-parlament, Alternattiva Demokratika tkun l-uniku garanzija li dawn ir-rikjesti ma jigux milqugha.  L-impenn taghna jifforma parti mill-manifest elettorali taghna. Ahna l-uniku partit li rridu li l-kacca tigi abolita fir-rebbiegha, b'konformita' mid-Direttiva ta' l-Aghsafar ta' l-UE u mal-Konvenzjoni ta' Berna. Ahna nappogjaw is-sejhiet tal-maggoranza tal-Maltin u l-Ghawdxin u ta' ghaqdiet tas-socjeta' civili favur iktar sahha ghall- Administrative Law Enforcement Unit sabiex il-kacca tista' tigi imrazzna."

Sa dan it-tant AD esprimiet l-appogg taghha ghad-demostrazzjoni favur il-protezzjoni ta' l-annimali li ser tigi organizzata minn diversi ghaqdiet tas-socjeta' civili. Id-demostrazzjoni ser issir nhar it-Tlieta 19 ta' Novembru u tibda fil-5pm fil-Pjazza tal-Helsien il-Belt Valletta. Ser jitqassmu ittri lill-Membri tal-Parlament li jinkludu appell biex jemfasizzaw l-importanza ta' l-enforzar fl-att il-gdid ghall-harsien ta' l-annimali.
