Now that Tony has taken his bat & ball & buggered off, who's going to answer
this one for me?
I've just had a few days in SW Vic and South Australia looking at pipeline
sites in roadside and remnant vegetation. I'll post a more coherent trip
list in due course - lots of interesting birds! My question is about
whistlers in the Red-lored/Olive Whistler group. I heard a whistler calling
in Gum Lagoon Conservation Park (inland from the Coorong) on several
occasions. I sounded kind of like an Olive Whistler, and therefore probably
the ultrataxon 'hesperus'. Such a dry place to find them though, which
makes me wonder about Red-lored Whistler. Do they stray that far south in
SA (Pizzey suggests they do)? The call described in Pizzey as "see saw sik"
for Red-lored Whistler is a pretty good description of the call I heard -
but equally good for some Olive Whistler calls.
Interested to hear opinions/suggestions ...........
