"The Handicap Principle: A Missing Piece of Darwin's Puzzle" by Amotz and
Avishag Zahavi.
$6.95 from Clouston & Hall, Booksellers in Canberra. Email address:
In case you didn't notice it in their October Academic Remainders list, they
write of it:
"Extravagance in animal displays, such as elaborate mating rituals, lavish
decorative displays, complex songs, calls and dances, have intrigued and
perplexed human observers. The authors offer a unifying theory that
brilliantly explains many baffling aspects of animal signalling."
I've got my copy and found it interesting and convincing. You might
disagree with some of their ideas, but you'll have to read it to find out.
It's a bargain at seven dollars plus packing and dispatch.
