I have seen Spotted Nightjar adjacent to the beach in suburban Darwin. I don't think it's that uncommon coastally here during the Dry Season (May-Oct approx). On a drive some years ago from Palmerston to Darwin, a distance of about 20 km, Rob Kernot and I saw 17 Spotted Nightjars. It was along a dirt back road, but unfortunately that back road is now a major bitumen road and I haven't seen the bird along there since!
