A correction. The name is Eric Hosking, not
"Eric Hoskings". Even though Darryl Jones' new Magpie book calls him
"Eric Hastings". (I have his book here.)

Eric Hoskings was a
famous bird photographer who once called up an owl, which landed on his
head and removed one of his eyes. Eric never held any hard feelings,
became very successful in his field in the UK, and ultimately wrote a
book of his life. He titled it "An Eye For a
Bird"
