As part of a study to look at the effects of the Christmas fires in the catchments behind Wollongong (south of Sydney) I have spent the last couple of days marking sites for survey work later in the month. A few interesting sightings compared to the surveys that we did last year, so I am looking forward to the actual survey work.

Rufous Songlark - 1 skulking in a dry sedge swamp in the burnt area Woronora (30/9). None recorded last year.

White-browed Woodswallow - at least 6 in burnt areas in Woronora (30/9). None recorded last year.

Pallid Cuckoo - 3 heard/seen at various locations (30/9). 1 record in all the surveys last year.

Black-faced Monarch - 3 heard at two locations in Cataract (1/10). First for the year

Chanel-billed Cuckoos have also arrived in Como (southern Sydney) on Saturday 28/9.

Cheers,
Peter
