Hi Peter
There's almost no chance at all that these are Slender-billed Thornbills
(aka Samphire Thornbill), because that species has a very limited range
in mallee heathland in the Little and Big Deserts in NW Victoria. We
don't have the samphire version of the 'Samphire' Thornbill here!
Maybe they were Buff-rumped Thornbills - outwardly somewhat similar in
appearance, calls, etc.
