Hi John

I was planning on sending a few words and a list out later today. My
team - the "Tang Tang Tintacks' (me, Chris Tzaros, Grant Baverstock) did
the 8-hour race this year. Partly this is because our commitments
prevented us from limbering up properly for a 24-hour job, and also
because our traditional rivals (the Bush Turkeys) were not racing this
year! Grant and I have done the 24-hour race 7 times previously
(including 2 wins), and I think we found the 8-hour race a nice change
of pace. Chris seemed pretty happy with the short format too. We ended
up relatively sane & healthy; though even 8 hours of racing tension is a
bit draining!!

OK - we won our section (8-hours, Victoria) with 155 species. Best bird
- Australasian Bittern - our total was stacked full of pretty standard
fare. Second place was a tie - two teams on 132 species. No doubt
they'll fill you in. The winning team in the 24-hour event got (I
think) 174 species. I plead fatigue/beer and resulting inattention at
the end-of-race party.

Details later - but we (the TTT) raced from Murrundindi (near Toolangi
in the rain & fog & altitude) down to Point Addis (wind, sunshine,
bristlebirds & albatrosses). Along the way we went to Melton, Brisbane
Ranges, You Yangs, Werribee, Geelong (various), Reedy Lake/Hospital
Swamp, Breamlea.

It was fun!!! .... and hopefully many $$$$ were raised for bird
conservation.
