The general debate about revealing sites or not has been discussed in full
earlier this year as well as other years. I have an opinion but sent it
direct to Peter rather than rehash the full debate again.
My old mate Penn Gwynne said the following: " ... Thank goodness says thee
red headed Pen-Gwynne that Yahoo more then adequately checks all that signs
up for them eh? ..." This DOES need challenging.
I recently needed to remain anonymous in dealing with politicians and the
media. I registered with Yahoo. I created a completely fictitious person
with a full address, date and place of birth and occupation. This was
accepted easily and I accomplished my mission while retaining my
anonyminity. I used a number of different computers to send and receive the
emails.
Since this exercise, I have not used the Yahoo address again and I don't
even know if it is current.
I realise that this only adds to the dilemma but Penn Gwynne's other comment
"... When I get an email from a person wanting to know this and that about
a certain bird species I ask them for a return snail mail address or and
their home phone number. Do all of us do the same? nothing beats a face to
face contact to help with a process of verification, and a happy family snap
type photo taken when you meet certainly assists ..." makes a lot of sense.
