Hi Peter

I agree that this is a real dilemma, however I think it would be a tragedy
if we all decided not to share news of interesting sightings in interesting
areas. I remember posting a report of our trip to far Nth Qld two years ago
that included our sighting of the Red Goshawks. Even though I only gave
very broad info on where they were (could have been anywhere in a 50km
radius) some people were concerned at me mentioning even this much. I read
a recent message that I think indicated that this Red Goshawk nest has now
been abandoned. I have seen no comment on why this may have happened.

I think that the best approach is to continue to send out such information,
but, wherever possible, only give general information and give contact
details for people in that area who can give detailed information to bona
fide birders. In the case of Gluepot, this could be just saying that xxx
has been seen and people can ask the Rangers for details when they get
there.

This of course still leaves the Rangers/other locals with the problem of
verifying each visitor's intent, but it is at least some checkpoint.

When we did see the Red Goshawks, we got the information from Lotus Bird
Lodge and they certainly gave us a bit of a verbal checking out before they
gave us any details.

The alternative, i.e. keeping all such information to oneself then raises
the question of "Who's bird is it anyway?" and who judges whom!!!
