Hi Everyone,

Here are some dates I find interesting. Yesterday I wanted to find out where
we are at with this year's wader arrivals on the Caloundra sandbanks (about
85km north of Brisbane). The dates represent the first observations of
larger numbers of the species than were present throughout the winter. This
doesn't necessarily mean a lot, just a sizeable increase. Note that we
observe only once a week.

18/7/02 Eastern Curlew
1/8/02 Grey-tailed Tattler
15/8/02 Red-necked Stint
29/8/02 Curlew Sandpiper
4/9/02 Whimbrel
4/9/02 Ruddy Turnstone
4/9/02 Greater Sand Plover
4/9/02 Lesser Sand Plover
20/9/02 Pacific Golden Plover

Species yet to return are Bar-tailed Godwit, Great Knot, Greenshank (we
usually only get one or two, so it's not here yet), Terek Sandpiper, and the
three trans-equatorial tern migrants Common, White-winged Black and Little
Tern.

The last sighting of Double-banded Plovers was on 29/8/02.

Cheers,

Jill
