Re: First Swift Parrots - from Qld to Tas

Its great to hear that the Swift Parrots are making it safely back to Tassie - hopefully preparing for another good breeding season.  The Swifties are well and truly spread out at the moment with birds being found in Queensland, NSW and Victoria during the survey earlier this month.  In Victoria there were Swifties recorded in Melbourne, Numurkah, Geelong and Shepparton.  In NSW there are some still some around Wooli/Grafton, Port Stephens, Central Coast and Wagga, Tarcutta and Tumut .   Just over a week ago I recorded 650 Swift Parrots leaving a roost site in the urban Gorokan/Lake Haven area of the central coast - it certainly was a truly amazing sight seeing over 30% of the population in a single location!  The interesting thing from now on will be finding out where they stop over on their way back to Tassie.  So for all those people in Victoria and the southern part of NSW the season is far from over yet - k

Afternoon all.

I encountered my first Tassie swift parrots of the season yesterday in the 
Hobart suburb of Taroona - a flock of 15, feeding noisily in flowering blue 
gums.  A sight and sound to lift the heart and spirit.
