Hello all,
Page 99 of the September edition of Australian PC User magazine has a
disturbing, if true, note on a virus that has been developed for inserting in a
JPEG image file.
Supposedly, this was done by someone who wanted to proved it could be.
The developer has supposedly only gone as far as creating something that doesn't
actually do any harm although it is capable of spreading itself.
He(?) has passed his work onto the antivirus developers for them to consider.
The worry is that this is an indication that it may actually be possible to
develop a destructive virus that can be inserted in an image file.
Users of Outlook Express, at least, will be very worried because of the way that
email application automatically opens JPEG attachments when the email is opened.

The lesson is that it is always only a matter of time before the less socially
adjusted find another way to 'enhance' their own lives at the expense of others.

There is supposed to be information on this virus at:
http://securityresponse_symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.perrun.html
But it didn't work for me.

Cheers?
Bob Inglis
