Some interesting observations from Melbourne environs

A few interesting observations from last weekend (showing UK friends some
of our local sites):

1.

      

Approx 10
Blue-winged Parrots and 1 Orange-bellied Parrot at the Western Treatment
Plant (WTP) near the Spit.
2.

      

10 Banded Lapwing
back in their traditional paddock on Beach Rd near Avalon Airfield
(hooray!).  [More accurate location details on request.]
3.

      

A female Brown
Goshawk flushed while drinking from a wheel-rut on the grassy road around
the back of Lake Borrie at the WTP.
4.

      

10+ Swift Parrots at
the western block of the You Yangs.
5.

      

All 3 common local
cuckoos (Horsfield's, Pallid, Fan-tailed) along Point Cook Homestead Rd
(this is a reliable site for these three cuckoos at this time of
year).
6.

      

Superb Lyrebirds in
full view in the open at both Jehosaphat Gully picnic ground (Kinglake)
and Badger Creek picnic ground (Healesville).
7.

      

An Olive Whistler
under a picnic table at Badger Creek.
8.

      

A large mixed flock
of Little and Long-billed Corellas (with a few Galahs and Sulphur-crested
Cockatoos) in central Diamond Creek.
