Today there was no wind, a very low tide and soft light,
just perfect conditions.
We recorded 53
species.
The thousands
of Pink-eared duck were slowly cruising around Lake Borrie in the company of
Shovelers , Hard Heads and Teal.
Instead of
frenetically rushing around to all our favourite spots on the Plant we sat in
chairs at the mouth of Little River and watched the passing parade. The chestnut band on the Double-banded
Plover was very obvious. The Great
Egret was looking more stately than usual. The Pied Oyster Catchers were there
too. Port Phillip was like a millpond. There were rafts of cormorants out
fishing.
Spring is in the
air; the male Musk Duck were flicking water everywhere, one looked like a
paddle steamer at full speed. The
other male backed off reluctantly.
That was down in the ponds towards the Borrow Pits. Still plenty of Red-kneed Dotterel on the
Borrow Pits. Avocet were on Paradise
Rd Ponds, out in the Bay and at the Borrow Pits. 3 Curlew Sandpipers in breeding plumage were among 17 others
at the Borrow Pits. The Hoary-headed Grebe took some short flights instead of
diving. Lots of Red-necked Stints
about.
