Edwin asked for an update on the Letter-winged Kites at Myall Lakes. Looked for these on Monday without success. Of the 20km of dirt (the "mining") road, the northern 2/3 is reasonable but the southern 1/3, in from Mungo Brush, is in very poor condition, full of endless deep potholes. Negotiated it in my 2WD at not much more than walking pace (4WD wouldn't be much better). Recommend you get in and out via Seal Rocks Road (at the northern end), especially if you are in a 2WD. Extensive open heath; might even be the slim chance of a Grass Owl there one day?
