You have every right to be "a bit sus" Koren.
During my years in the RAN I spent a good deal of my time based in and around
Sydney Harbour and offshore of course (1971-1982). In that time the furthest
'upriver' that I encountered Albatrosses was in the early 1970s. I can't
remember the year exactly but I did send a photograph of 2 Black-browed
Albatrosses flying under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to my brothers in the UK.
This was after a particularly strong south easterly blow.
I recall seeing a photograph (not sure of the
publication, thought I had it, can't find it) of various Albatrosses and Giant
Petrels close to shore off Malabar 1950s-1960s. This was a sewage outlet and I
strongly suspect the Homebush effluent would have 'outed' here. I find it
particularly hard to believe that any large 'tubenose' would venture up
river that far to feed. Maybe you missed something in your interpretation of the
