Again there is a problem with the Beach Rd., Gate, there are
2 G locks there so enter from Paradise Rd.
The bird watching there today was magic. The receding tide was ideal for the
waders to feed near the mouth of Little River. The Red Knot are still about and are in full breeding
plumage. Plenty of Red-necked
Stints and Curlew Sandpipers. A
raft of Little Black Cormorants was in a feeding frenzy just out in the Bay.
Thousands of Pink-eared duck are on Lake Borrie; Shovelers,
Blue-billed, Musk, Teal, both Grey & Chestnut, are in considerable numbers.
The Red-necked Avocet were on the ponds as well as out in
the Bay, close by were Banded Stilts with very visible Bands. The Black-winged Stilts were nearby.
Red-kneed Dotterel are about at the Borrow Pits, numerous
Purple Swamp Hens add much colour on a grey day.
Both Royal 7 Yellow-billed Spoonbills were feeding in Little
River.
Our total bird count was 63 species.
