Robert Not only would I not be ashamed about carrying a field guide around (I'm one who carries a backpack - sorry Tony - with Pizzey & Knight, notebook, spare biro, thermos, gloves, lunch and, most importantly, Tim Tams), I also wouldn't be ashamed to admit to problems with Thornbills - tiny little things, never stopping so you can look at them, usually high in a tree or hiding behind a leaf. Grr! My take on the feild guides thing is that it's just another aspect of English classism. Like in Chariots of Fire. What me? Practice? Never!
