Visited Barren Grounds on Saturday and found plenty of Bird activity.
Not a huge variety though. Eastern bristlebirds were relatively easily
seen in the heath just beyond the Lodge. They were popping on to the
track quite regularly, esp in the last hour of daylight. A small group
of Gang-Gangs was around the car park early and late in the day, feeding
quitely in nearby eucalypts during the day. Along with the numerous
Little and Red Wattlebirds, New Holland HE's and Spinebills, there were
groups of White naped and Yellow faced HE's. Lewin's HE's were seen out
on the heathland which seemed a bit unusual for them. The Superb Fairy
Wrens were still in eclipse plumage.
The Heath is still not rich in flowers, mainly some Epacrids and
Leucopogon microphylla. The Boronia thujona was heavily in bud. The
Banksia ericiafolia, spinulosa and paludosa were keeping the honeyeaters
happy.
