I'm sure you're right, Terry, there will, I assume, always be a
small amount of oil/fuel released in these circumstances and anti fouling
paint is a perrenial problem. I, also, am aware of the dugongs and, of
course, the essential fragile state of Moreton Bay - as of most coastal
areas around cities etc everywhere.
I guess that, in this case anyway, we could consider ourselves
'lucky' that no more damage to the environment occured and also hope the
relevant authorities learn from it so it is avoided in the future!

Colin

You are correct that the majority of the "spill" was probably mud and sand
but if you saw the TV and looked closely at the colour photo, there was,
what looked like, a faint oil slick off the bow of the vessel.

The other point is that the area is a known dugong feeding area. Surely the
sand and mud that was stirred up would cover some of the sea grass growing
in the area. Wouldn't that have an effect on the dugong? What about any
anti-fouling paint that may have been "ground" off the bottom of the ship?
I thought that this could be toxic to marine plant life.
