Birding Brisbane and up to Cooktown

I'm going to be visiting Brisbane for 14 days beginning 29 June and later 
driving to areas north, possibly as far as Cooktown until 7 August.  Can 
someone make suggestions for favorite birding areas and web sites.  

I have 2 books on Aus. birds but both are at least 10 years old.  What is 
birders favorite book?
