Re: Susan Knowles request for good birding spots near
Adelaide, what about Gluepot? Lots of good information
on the spot, 3 camp sites but bring your own water and
all supplies.
2 hrs Adelaide to Waikerie, collect a key from the
Shell Service Station by the new roundabout near
Woolworths, then over the ferry, 12 km on sealed road
taking left hand turn at the junction after about 10
km, then right after 2 km at the church (which is a
funny looking building, most unchurch-like on the
right), and 50 km on the dirt through 5 gates (1st by
the piggeries sometimes locked and last always locked
- other 3 have to be opened.
Birds to be seen include Striated Grasswren, Chestnut
Quail-thrush, Shy Heathwren, Black-eared Miner,
Southern Scrub-robin, and Malleefowl if you are really
lucky.
