Steve I have checked all the older guides I can find and can not find "Rock plover" as an alternative name. Could it be a corruption of "Flock Plover" - the Banded Lapwing or "Stone Plover" - Bush Stone-curlew? Both of these names are regularly mentioned in older literature.
