Dear Bird Lovers, The drudgery of the daily bicycle commute was relieved this morning (Tue 18/6/02) by a Southern Boobook in the Peppercorns at the western end of Bowen Street, Richmond (Melways 2G H4), about 1.7 km east of the nearest point of the Melbourne CBD (beating my previous best of 3.5 km at Studley Park, Kew, where they breed). Didn't have my bins, but will return this arvo to see if I can age it and work out which subspecies it is (some birds of Tasmanian subspecies leucopsis) migrate to the mainland for winter. Cheers, Paul Peake.
