Bob Cook commented about the lack of Black-shouldered Kites west of
Nyngan, contrasting this with the large numbers further east.
I noticed this as well on the NSW June long weekend. The easternmost
point I saw Black-shouldered Kites was, indeed Nyngan. Precisely the same
pattern observed for Black Kite, which are currently increasing in numbers
around Dubbo.
Almost certainly a reflection of the available grass cover as the drought
advances.
