I was lucky enough to visit Lake Clarendon in the Lockyer Valley during my
trip to Brisbane over the long weekend. Together with a pair of local
birdwatchers I saw 100s of Black-winged Stilts and Red-necked Avocets
feeding and resting and a single Banded Stilt. The local twitchers new
about this bird far outside it's normal range. I wonder if it is a first
for this area? I was also amazed to see my first ever Plum-headed Finches
nearby. 9 in all (6 adults, 3 juveniles). Other birds included a Cockatiel,
several Gull-billed Terns and a pair of Whistling Kites. Later a pair of
White-breasted Sea-Eagles were seen soaring high over Atkinson's Dam.
