While they do not have transcripts for these programs on the ABC web
sites, you can hear the interviews on the internet. Access Bush
Telegraph's archives at
http://www.abc.net.au/rural/telegraph/index/monthly.htm
or go more directly to the twitching interviews via http://www.abc.net.au/rural/telegraph/index/BushtelegraphMonth_May2002.htm . You can listen online or download the .ram files. Here is the summary of the birding segment for 24 May - a great program, far better hearing it than just reading a transcript! Twitchers and tickers - We've all heard of those adventurous spirits who dedicate their spare time to extreme sports and whether it be hangliding, skydiving or bungee jumping, they're all fired by a unique passion. On Bush Telegraph today, two people who spend a lot of their time in an extreme sport you might not have considered before, birdwatching. The art of birdwatching takes the twitcher on adventures from the scrubby bush of the mallee in Victoria, to the salty shores of the Torres Strait. But they're not there just to see the bird, as twitchers, they're got a mission. To see as many birds as possible. Australia's top birder, Mike Carter, from Mt Eliza in Victoria has seen 769 birds out of a possible 820 in Australia. While Sean Dooley is on a mission to break the Australian Bird Watching record in one year. He's aiming to see 700 birds in on year, so far he's ticked off 414.
