I have just heard on the news today that Prospect
Reservoir (near Blacktown) is being reserved as a heritage area for Sydney.
Though a man made wetland area, the reservoir provides important habitat
for many species of waterbirds. It is also a nationally important area
for Great Crested Grebes (at times the
reservoir holds a couple of a hundred or so of these beautiful birds). In
addition to the wetland, the adjoing area of endangered Cumberland plain
woodland is just as significant (with a number species of restricted and
endangered flora).
If anyone know on further news about this, I would
be very interested to hear.
