No suggestions about how to stop it, but I've also seen Ravens picking up
and flying off with golf balls in the Rocky Mountains in Canada. In the
middle of winter.

Hello All,
Here in Norway over the last few weeks there has been articles in news
papers about Ravens Corvus corax stealing huge numbers of golf balls from
driving ranges. Even my local driving range has been hit by the problem with
an estimated 2000 golf balls disappearing. Through the years, I have heard
of different members of the crow family (Magpie - Crow)
stealing golf balls from greens and fairways during the course of a game, so
the problem is not new, however, I have never heard of golf balls being
stolen in such huge numbers. That a member of the crow family steals a golf
ball thinking it is a birds egg is quite understandable, but I would have
thought that Corvidae, which are known for their intelligence would soon
learn that golf balls are not food, and therefore not worth the effort.
There is also the fact that the birds could be attracted by something white
(shiny) on the green grass. The local golf club have asked me how they can
solve the problem. Is there anyone on the list who has heard of anything
similar? I would be grateful for any feedback.
