Hi All,
Last week at Heathcote in Applecross in suburban Perth i observed a male Magpie feeding on a mouse. This is the first time i have seen a Magpie feeding on a mouse.
After it had consumed about two thirds of the mouse, it picked it up and walked directly to a clump of bushes about 20 metres and then hid the remains under the bush.
It took me a couple of minutes to find the remains, due to the effort made by the Magpie to conceal the prey. No doubt it would be relocated and eaten later.
I have seen Ravens hide and store excess prey, but this is the first time i have seen a Magpie hide its food for later consumption.
Best Regards
