Summary of Bush Telegraph segment on Monday 13 May - which I didn't hear.
Australia's native birds on brink of extinction -
An Adelaide researcher says at least 10 per cent of
farms need to be "retired" from production, and then
revegetated - to save Australia's native birds from
extinction. And not only that...he's suggesting the
government pay farmers wages to stay on and
manage the properties. David Paton from the
University of Adelaide presented his somewhat radical
proposal to the Australian Veterinary Association
annual conference yesterday. He says he's seen a
huge drop in bird populations in the hills around
Adelaide in the last decade, and the same thing is
happening right across Australia.
