Hi all

A friend of mine saw a Pink (Major Mitchell's) Cockatoo near Skipton, which is
NW of Geelong, on Saturday 4 May. He is not a birdwatcher as such but is a
biologist and is sufficiently knowledgeable to realise this bird was a long way
from its usual range. It was beside the main road. He only saw one bird, but
was driving a busload of tired rock-climbers back home so didn't stop to
investigate further.

Yes, they'd been climbing at Arapiles, and no, they hadn't been inhaling the
sort of stuff you might otherwise find at that great climbing place if you
weren't looking after a party of school students.

I guess this bird could be an escape, but with all the other dry country stuff
turning up I thought I'd better pass on the info. I didn't see him until very
recently so I couldn't let the list know earlier. If I had a day to spare I'd
be up like a shot because I missed this species at Hattah last year and would
dearly like to see 'em.
