Bird Survey in the Quirindi
Creek Catchment, NSW
Following
the success of the Birds Australia Liverpool Plains Woodland Bird Project, bird
surveys will be undertaken at Quirindi this weekend.
Why
a survey?
The Quirindi
Creek Catchment Committee is embarking on an extensive program of riparian
(creek line) revegetation and protection.
One of the core actions of the program is to fence sections of riparian
areas to promote the re-establishment of endemic reed, grass, shrub and tree
species. Bird species are valuable
indicators of ecosystem health, and these surveys will be important in
collecting baseline data.
Survey
locations?
The
survey will occur at designated points in the Quirindi
Creek Catchment which lies to the east of the Quirindi township. Surveyors will be required to conduct
Atlas surveys (2-hectare Area Search) at a number of locations along the Creek.
When?
Saturday
18th May, 2002, from 7am (workshop/bird
outing Sunday 19th May, 2002)
Who?
Any
interested birdwatchers and/or naturalists.
Transport?
Transport
can be arranged for those travelling from Sydney or
Newcastle.
