Now that the subject has been raised...... re Owls movement in Autumn.
My partner reported a 'large' Owl outside her house one evening a couple
of weeks back on the overhead wires. Her description (after careful
questioning of one-who-knows-no-birds) sounds like a Powerful Owl. The
suburb is Wilston within 10 Kms (as the owl flies) of the CBD in Brisbane.
There are no significant forests or large tracts of 'wild' land immediately
near her house, altho Mt Cootha (a known PO site) is about 10 kms away in a
direct line.
Interesting........and frustrating, as despite long evenings spent
sitting on the verandah since, eagerly clutching binoculars, it has failed
to reappear!
