< Slaughter of protected birds goes on - BirdLife >
BirdLife Malta said it was "disgusted" at the continued illegal slaughter of
protected birds throughout the Maltese islands.
"It is evident that a large number of Maltese and Gozitan hunters are
flouting
the law at every opportunity they have, shooting on anything from Swifts and
Swallows, to Golden Orioles, Hoopoes, Falcons, Herons, Marsh Harriers and
Honey
Buzzards" the society said in a statement.
Despite the "commendable efforts" of the police, illegal hunting was
occurring
without restraint, it added.
BirdLife appealed to the authorities to allocate more resources particularly
personnel, especially now at the height of the spring migration season, in
order
to check this behaviour.
