Hi birders
Just back from a very leisurely weekend spent at a holiday house in the
hamlet of Wye River, on the Otway Ranges coastline between Lorne and
Apollo Bay in SW Victoria. Did almost no birding at all, but the house
is surrounded by open-forest of Mountain Grey Gum (Eucalyptus
cypellocarpa) which is flowering at the moment. Quite a few honeyeaters
around during the day, and the odd Musk Lorikeet (rare-ish in the Otways
proper). Butterflies were quite abundant around the blossoms - mostly
Imperial Whites but also a few Sword-grass Browns. Yellow-bellied
Gliders chortling away at night. Rufous Bristlebirds in the back yard.
Very pleasant indeed! An abbreviated, incidental list follows ......
