There have been a few local sightings of Black Falcons lately. Jack Lund saw
one at his place, about a kilometre away, a couple of days ago and we've had
the occasional bird overflying us here.
This-morning at Abberton we watched a pair of Black Falcons climbing and
stooping in display above the trees just across the creek. A wonderful
sight. (I just noted that I reported the same activity here in May last
year).
Trevor Ford has pointed out that I was so focussed on the Banded Stilt that
I didn't mention that there were a lot of other birds at Lake Clarendon the
other day. As well as the various stilts and avocets, the lake was covered
with Pink-eared Duck, plenty of Australasian Shovelers, there was a single
Banded Lapwing on the shoreline acting like the wader that we know he really
is, a group of eleven godwits that I didn't 'scope (in my hunt for the
Banded Stilt), a few Sharp-tailed Sandpipers, Whiskered Terns and all the
expected cormorants, egrets etc etc that I really won't list.
Trevor got over to Clarendon yesterday, saw the Banded Stilt, most of the
above, and also 30+ Hoary-headed Grebes and a Brown Falcon.
