needletails and a gull?

Howdy,

I have 2 queries regarding recent topics posted to the group.

The 1st is a long held question I've had about needletails visiting Aus: do they sleep 'on the wing'? I've heard tell this has been seriously postulated, given that they're so rarely observed while perching. Such moments are so unusual, in fact, that they have a long history of being anecdotes worthy of publication. I realise that to ascertain whether they actually sleep while flying would be no mean feat, and would mark a noteworthy achievement by both investigator and investigated. Still, if you can nest in your own spit... well obviously the world is your oyster.

Secondly, what was that about a possible herring gull in Westernport Bay?

Stay well
