Better to call it than miss it!!
One can get over embarassment, but it's worse if a bird is ID'd too late for
people to see it.

Hi Birding-aussers, I agree, Andrew's excited report on the last Southport
pelagic was rather good. So good that I'll let him do the trip reports from
now on, when he's on the trip that is, otherwise it's boring old me you'll
be hearing from.
Sad to report that the White-headed Petrel captured on that trip, passed
away. When initially weighed it proved to be about 150g underweight and the
autopsy revealed it had suffered liver failure among other things. It was a
young male, now a future museum specimen.
Kermadec Petrel sightings seem to be on the increase off SEQ with birds
sighted off Southport in 4 of the last 7 years alone, with one of those
years being pelagic free (2001). Also most of those sightings involved more
than one bird involving all the phases. There are still some positions
vacant for the next Southport Pelagic on April 20th and Kermadecs have been
sighted in April.
I also have to tell you that Andrew won't be allowed to forget his
indiscretion with the White Tern for some time to come particularly as it
was a 'lifer' for him. I didn't get a single 'lifer' for the trip, so he's
going to pay. Seriously though, with a hectic day like last saturday things
slip out in the heat of the moment, we are all 'guilty' of it. Cheers & good
