Sand-plover IDs again

Having now heard from Alan Morris, and various other persons (to whom
thanks), as well as reading Edwin Vella's report, I can see that I have
been guilty of misidentification, and obviously need more experience
with these small waders.
It seems that most, and probably all the birds I saw at Comerong along
with the Red-Capped Plover and the Stints, were Double-Banded Plover. I
now need to find somewhere near Sydney where I can reliably find Lesser
Sand-Plover, so as to make a comparison.
And the seeming inconsistencies in the field-guides continue to trouble
me. Do the birds simply vary that much?
