Hi All,
Further to Russell's posting of 10th March,
made 2 visits to Lake Lorne at Drysdale over the weekend.
The Freckled Duck are still in residence but
could only locate 1 Blue-billed and 1 Musk Duck amongst the many Teal,
Hardhead, Coots, Moorhen and Grebes. A pair of Shovellers, a lone Darter
and one Great Cormorant hiding amongst the Little Pied & Little Black
Cormorants.
White Ibis dotted the island whilst around
the edges Black-fronted Dotterel and Swamphen foraged. Wood & Black
Duck snoozed, Welcome Swallows skimmed the water and a solitary Cattle
Egret on the edge of the reeds.
Swans, Masked
Lapwing, White-faced Heron added to the total whilst on Sunday, a Red-kneed
Dotterel obliged by landing right in front of me. Always nice to
see.
The bushbirds included New
Holland Honeyeater, Superb Fairy-wren, Black-shouldered Kite, Red Wattlebird,
Brown Thornbill and White-browed Scrubwren.
The casual walk around the lake
took 40 minutes. A real treasure of a wetland with easy access.
An added bonus, should you time
your visit for a Sunday, is the arrival of the steam train from
Queenscliff. I believe it pulls into Drysdale around midday and 3pm each
Sunday
Happy birding
