G'day all,
I had the pleasure last night, at about 8:00pm of seeing a Powerful Owl
in suburban Clayton, Melbourne. It was actually at the Monash Uni bus
loop, off Wellington Rd. Although it was in bad light, the shear size
was a giveaway, but the Red Wattlebids and Grey Butcherbirds chased it
off.
Are there any Powerful's known elsewhere in the area? How significant is
this? And who keeps these records in Vic?
I'll probably come spotlighting through the grounds during the week and
possibly try some playback. Will keep you all informed on the progress.
Also, a Peregrine Falcon has taken up its perch again on the N-E corner
of the Menzies building. I think a lot of students think I'm quite
strange peering into the sky while a hundred people are having lunch
around me.
I suppose this is my autumn backyard bird list too.
Happy birding,
Al Stewart
