Hmmm, I guess PB and maned ducks aren't too hard to identify on the wing, but
how is one to tell the difference between a grey teal and a female chestnut teal
on the wing?

Given that one doesn't get a good look at quail on the ground, just how good are
the hunters at distinguishing between brown and stubble quail, and the other
"quails" during the couple of seconds they are in the air?  I would have thought
that all the hunter's attention would be taken up with targeting and they
wouldn't be able to concentrate on the species ...
