Generally when there is smoke there is oxidation. In this case, the following
extract from the Ramsar website provides a pointer to the source ...

Book announcement. A Farewell to Greenland's Wildlife.

Kjeld Hansen's book of that title, first published in Danish in 2001, is newly
available in English. Journalist Hansen "documents the ruthless and unchecked
extermination of living resources that is rapidly denuding an arctic
landscape of its wildlife. The author persuasively argues that unless this
process is reversed within 10-20 years some species will become extinct.
For other species the savage reduction in numbers will render them unable
to make either an economic or a quality-of-life contribution to Greenland
society. What may appear to be a regional problem is of global interest.
Greenland's wildlife is part of humanity's common heritage." A thoroughly
detailed survey of Greenland's wildlife, in the context of Greenlanders'
hunting practices, the ambiguous Home Rule relationship with Denmark, and
Ramsar and other international treaty obligations, Mr Hansen's moving book
has been ably translated into English by Robin Worrall and includes
illustrations and maps. It can be ordered from NHBS Mailorder Bookstore,
2-3 Wills Road, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5XN, UK www.nhbs.com),
and the author can be contacted at [08/03/02]

For those birders interested in overseas filed guides [and even some Australian
publications - eg on grasswrens] might like to have a look at
http://www.nhbs.com
It is a comprehensive bird book site - particularly
http://www.nhbs.com/news/higp1.html which not only includes the first five
HANZAB volumes but 10 volumes of the India/Parkistan Handbook series ...
