Australia's floral emblem is Acacia pycantha, commonly known as Australian golden wattle. At the turn of the century there was some intense competition between the wattle and the Waratah. Acacia pycantha grows in drier areas of NSW Vic and SA. The Wattle League was formed in 1911 in Melbourne to support the case for the Wattle as our floral emblem. rgds, Chris Ross Birding-Aus is on the Web at www.shc.melb.catholic.edu.au/home/birding/index.html To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message "unsubscribe birding-aus" (no quotes, no Subject line) to |
