The Western Treatment Plant or Werribee Bird Habitat as I would prefer to
call it, is most interesting at the moment. The waders are showing
increased colour. There is a least one Curlew Sandpiper with a very
colourful breast. Sharp-tailed Sandpipers scalloping is now very definite.
On the Austin Rd. Lagoons or T-section Ponds there are Godwits, both Royal
and Yellow-billed Spoonbills and loads of waders.
Down at the Borrow Pits there were some Tasmanian Silvereyes and many
Red-kneed Dotterels, both Banded and Pied Stilts and Avocet.
At the mouth of Little River there were Pied Oystercatchers , further
along the River there were many Ibis, both White and Sacred, Great Egret
and more Spoonbills.
On other ponds are plenty of ducks, Shelduck are still moulting, lots of
Pink Eared, Teal & Musk Duck. The Freckled Duck are on Lake Borrie.
The 3 Cape Barren Geese are on the Paradise Rd Ponds as are the Wood Duck.
There were a couple of darters on the of pier at the end of 150 East
Outfall.
Kirk's Point was most disappointing, a couple of Crested Terns and a few
Cormorants.
With all the other usual birds it is a place worth visiting soon
I still cannot find a Ballion's Crake and I have spent hours just sitting!
